The Falcon Lake Incident
On May 20th, 1967 a close encounter of the second kind occurred in Manitoba, Canada near Falcon Lake. This event occurred around 50 miles from the American border. It involved Stefan Michalak, an amateur geologist at the time, who had visited the area many times for his hobby. However, his excursion on May 20th would be one he would never forget.
Stefan was no stranger to Falcon Lake, and he had visited many times before when searching for minerals. However, when he heard the familiar call of geese ahead and looked up he beheld a sight he wasn’t expecting. There was something else besides geese in the sky, Stefan saw two oval-shaped glowing objects making a steep descent straight towards Falcon Lake. While one stopped its downward movement, the other continued getting closer and closer to the ground and landed on a flat rock outcropping about 200 feet away from Stefan.
Curious, although frightened, Stefan made his way towards the recently landed craft. Once close enough, he described the craft’s appearance as a bowl with a dome on top and being roughly 40-feet wide and 15-feet high. In addition to its appearance, Stefan also said it emitted a steady humming sound and an unpleasant sulphuric stench. There was also a door-like opening that, when he approached it, he heard muffled voices.
According to HowStuffWorks, "They sounded like humans," he reported. "I was able to make out two distinct voices, one with a higher pitch than the other."
At this point, Stefan still believed he was dealing with a humancraft. Perhaps a new test design by the government or private aerospace outfit. Undeterred, he continued his trek closer and closer to the craft and its entryway. He asked several times if anyone inside needed help and, with no response, decided to try and enter through the doorway. Once his eyes adjusted to the strange interior he only saw an impossible maze of lights and suddenly, doors slid into place closing off the craft and its entrance. He was wearing welding googles at the time, which he used to peer into the craft.
Suddenly, the craft began to heat up and rose. Hot air spewed from a gridlike vent and Stefan’s shirt instantaneously caught on fire as a wave of nausea brought him to his knees. Once he got himself together, he headed towards home.
He was seen by his doctor and explained his story. The burn pattern across his chest was strange and unexplained. The next day after the event he was treated at the hospital and suffered only minor injuries, his health problems continued. They did check him for radiation but he had a normal count.
Stan, Stefan’s son, remembers his father coming home that day,"I recalled seeing him in bed. He didn't look good at all. He looked pale, haggard." Although he was just nine years old at the time, this moment stood out to young Stan.
A year later, he was being treated at the famous Mayo Clinic. His health was still slightly deteriorating and he was experiencing increasing blackouts. Additionally, the burns would reoccur and show up on his chest from time to time, which was baffling. During this time, he was investigated by official and civilian bodies. They found no evidence against or disproving his story and found him to be of sound mind.
To this day, there has been no definitive answer as to what Stefan experienced that fateful date on Falcon Lake.
