The White Lady of Union Cemetery
At Astonishing Legends, spectral women donning white are well known. However, there is a White Lady on the east coast whose haunting is said to rival that of our beloved Resurrection Mary. Lorraine Warren, infamous in the paranormal community, even said about the cemetery, I can tell you that I know for a fact that this place is haunted, it's one of the most haunted places around.”
How did the Warrens get involved in this particular story? Well, this cemetery is in Connecticut and the couple and their family lived just down the road from the allegedly infamous cemetery. They often visited the cemetery and Lorraine Warren also noted that, We have actually witnessed her walk right down the gravestones, weaving in and out. We do have the White Lady on camera who she is, we do not know.”
While there may not be a definite answer to this ghostly woman’s true identity, theories of her identity abound. Some believe she is Harriet B. Seeley. Harriet died centuries ago but her gravestone can still be found in Union Cemetery. But what is the connection? Well, her young son died shortly before she did and some believe she may have died in hopes of finding her son and still wanders their final resting place searching him out. Others believe she is the ghost of a woman from the 1940s who killed her husband and later herself and so she is doomed to wander the graveyard. Others believe the spirit itself may be emblematic of mourning mothers who lost their children at young ages or in childbirth.
One of the most popular stories is that of an almost hit and run. One day, a man was driving a bit recklessly down Stephney Road in his pickup truck. Out of nowhere, a young woman in a white dress appeared walking in the middle of the road. The man attempted to stop, but the suddenness of her appearance did not allow for him. When he was able to pull over, the man walked toward the scene of the crime. However, when he arrived there was no sign of the young woman, or any sign of the accident on the road or on his car.
Her physical description remains consistent - she is a young woman wearing a white dress with dark hair. It seems that this lady, like Resurrection Mary, also enjoys scaring the daylights out of the living. The above story is emblematic of most encounters with The White Lady of Union Cemetery. Many who have witnessed her believe they have almost hit, only to find no trace of her once they pull over. Others claim they have often seen her hovering slightly above the ground around the cemetery, going back and forth among different gravestones.
