The Jones House
In Manchester, Connecticut in an assuming house occurred potentially one of the most intense hauntings of the 20th century. It all began one evening in 1993, when Denise heard her son, Michael, screaming in the house. When she walked in the room she found him alone on his bed, shaking and screaming. When she asked what happened he said he saw a strange looking man smiling at him. The man touched his shoulder and disappeared. Michael was only five years old when the man first appeared. But this mysterious man would become a fixture in the Jones house for years to come.
A short while later, while visiting one of Denise’s family members, Michael looked at a photo and told his mother this was the man that had appeared in his room and inspired such fear. Denise told him, surprisingly, that it was her grandfather, Michael’s grandfather. Michael had never met him, and he had died over 15 years before Michael’s birth. Denise also says he had never seen a picture of him, either.
This brought some peace to Michael’s scary experience--it wasn’t a random old man, it was a family member checking in on him. That helped explain the pat on his shoulder and why he had appeared to Michael at all. There were several more sightings of his great-grandfather over the next few days but Michael was not as frightened as the first sighting.
However, this peace did not last. Soon, other beings, including one nicknamed “The Shadow Man”began visiting Michael and inflcitingpsycholoigcal and even physical damage to him. The family also began seeing the shadow man and hearing and seeing the physical effects, like a bed shaking, of an unexplained presence.
Denise, unsure of what to do but believing Michael's experience, contacted a paranormal investigator. John Zaffis went to the Jones' house and concluded that spirits were actively trying to posses Michael. Denise decided that a move may help, so the family packed up to a new home. Sadly, the spirits followed them. Zaffis was not able to help further so Denise got in touch with the church. A bishop agreed to perform an exorcism and when performing it, the shadow man appeared. All was calm for three weeks after, and the family was relieved. But then, activity started again. Michael would eventually go through four additional exorcisms.
The Jones' family story would eventually be features on an episode of Unsolved Mysteries which featured him and his family and their experiences. Michael's mother was already worried about him. Why? He had multiple near death experiences, even at such a young age. Some paranormal investigators later believed this perhaps made him more prone to seeing ghosts and/or being interacted with than others.
In the episode, years after the initial incident, Mchael said that he still sees spirits but they are no longer as violent.
