Buffalo Ridge Road

Haunted roads are a well trodden topic here at Astonishing Legends, from blog posts to actual episodes (cough, cough Resurrection Mary). Tonight's haunted road brings us right to Ohio which, if you ask some Legenders, might be the most haunted and rich-in-paranormal activity out of all the states.

Like many haunted roads (including my hometown legend, Cossart Road), Buffalo Ridge road is somehow related to the devil and satanic rituals. To many Ohioans, this stretch of road just looks like a normal, tree-lined road. But for those in the know, this road is something you want to avoid. It even has something in common with my hometown's haunted road: if you drive on certain parts of it after dark, a black car will come run you off the road or follow you until you turn off.

The biggest rumor about Buffalo Ridge, though,  is that it used to have its own Crematorium (perhaps at the end of the road?). For generations, it was said you could still see the bones of this abandoned crematorium and it was burned down or otherwise mostly destroyed because Satanic cultists had subsumed the building to perform rituals with bodies. In fact, some said God himself struck down the crematorium. Sadly, there have been no records of a crematorium (especially a satanic one) of the same description in the area. However, there was a strange building out in the woods. It was a half-built observatory. They ran out of funding while building it, so they left it in the woods.

One of the reasons that may be the cause behind the rumors of hauntings is the hit-and-runs that sometimes occur on the winding road. There are said to be people missing body parts, calling out for help, and then disappearing. Perhaps these apparitions still haven't realized they're dead and are still in shock over their sudden ends. In particular, the most haunted stretch seems to be around the entrance and exit of the Mitchel Memorial Forest.
