The Wyoming UFO Case

In the wilds of Medicine Bow National Forest in Wyoming, it was a normal day in 1974 for Carl Higdon...until it wasn't. He was out doing one of his favorite things, Elk hunting, and was shooting when something strange happened. When the bullet left his gun, it almost looked like it slowed down.

Missing the elk Carl still wanted to go after the bullet and see what happened. As he moved towards the bullet, a strange sensation washed over him and he felt as if he was being watched. And he was.

Standing behind him, Carl saw a large humanoid over six feet tall. It was wearing some sort of black jumpsuit, a belt with a six pointed star, and swaths of yellow. Its hair was standing straight out of its head, it had no eye brows, and it had long arms and bowed legs. At the end of its arms weren't hands, it appeared to end in a rod.

Carl stared at it in shock. That shock grew deeper when the creature spoke to him…and asked if he was hungry. Now, I’ve covered a lot of alien encounters both here on the blog and in episodes but this may be the most polite one I have covered.

Before Carl could respond, the creature gave him four small pills. The creature reassured Carl that if he ate one, he shouldn't be hungry again for four days. Then, the creature pointed at Carl and in an instant Carl found himself totally encased in some sort of glass or transparent tube and a helmet appeared on his head.

Once Carl was encased, two more of the strange creatures appeared behind the first. These were carrying the elks that Higdon had been tracking all day. The humanoids then told Carl that they would be visiting their home plant thousands of light years away. Carl arrived in a moment and he compared all the buildings on the planet to appearing like the Seattle space needle.

He did not know where he was, but over 2 hours had elapsed since the humanoid appeared. He had to walk miles before finally finding his car. Once he got in, he radioed the Sheriff for help. The police found him at midnight. By that point, Carl was in an advanced state of shock, screaming "they took my elk", and the police decided to transport him to the hospital there. When he arrived, testing began and it was found that the tuberculosis marks that were previously on his lungs had disappeared, his vitamin levels were exceptional, and he was in good health.

Now, why they looked at his lungs (and knew there were previously spots) does sound a bit far-fetched but I am not a doctor and am unsure of the tests and records they might have run and kept in 1974.

After viewing this strange city with these strange creatures, Carl was waking up disoriented back in the forest.

If you believe any of this at all, even the FBI reportedly got involved and interviewed Carl. Who, up until that point, was a typical 41-year old man who worked on an oil field. After the incident, Carl went to Dr. Leo Sprinkle, who was at the time a known UFO researcher. During their work together, Carl relieved the moment again and again and never changed his story once.

Despite this experience, his life before and after was ordinary. He was married with four children, an Air Force Veteran of the Korean war, and a talented hunter and hard worker.

Carl passed away in 20222, and throughout his life remained steadfast in his story and experience. Carl’s wife, Margery, wrote a book about the experience. “Alien Abduction of the Wyoming Hunter” was published in 2017 and is available on Amazon.

He wrote of his experience: ““It don’t mean a hill of beans to me whether anybody believes it or not. I know what happened to me. If people want to take it at face value, that’s fine. If they don’t, that don’t make any difference. I just want people to be aware in case something like this happens to them.”
